It is the start of a new year, and with the new year comes new resolve to eat right and lose weight. However, even though we are just a few days into the new year, many of us have already broken our resolutions. We see slim-figured people all around us with their trim waistlines and toned bodies, and we just can’t help but wonder what skinny people eat to stay slim. The truth is, there are a few tips and tricks for the right foods to eat that will keep you feeling full and help you beat the battle of the bulge.
It sounds benign, but the fact is, thin people are able to stay thin because they feel satisfied when they fill up on high density but low calorie foods. Fruits, veggies, and whole grains are among these items. They are packed with water and fiber, but are lighter in calories. Whether it is conscious or subconscious, thin people will often start their meals with a soup or a salad, helping to make them feel full before indulging in high-calorie meals later on. The result is a smaller waistline and less propensity to cheat on a diet.
Part of the problems many people have with managing their weight is that they don’t properly portion their food. People who are skinny, however, will typically eat the right amounts of food and don’t have a tendency to overfill their plates. A lot of the guesswork can be taken out of the number of calories you are eating and the proper portion sizes by eating prepacked or preportioned meals. Frozen meals are simple to prepare: pop them in the microwave and voila! Your meal is portioned the the correct size, and will most likely offer a good balance of vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains.
Years ago the low fat diet craze took the world by storm. The theory was that “fat makes you fat”. While this is true to some degree, there has to be a balance of healthy fats in order to stay healthy. Good fats also help you feel full longer. Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats are common in Mediterranean diets. These include olive oil and Omega-3 Fatty acids. Not only are these fats excellent for your waistline, but they are also chock full of heart healthy and skin healthy antioxidants.
You don’t need to starve yourself to get skinny or stay skinny. You just need to pick the right foods to eat in order to get skinny and stay skinny. Add several glasses of water per day to these three things that skinny people eat, and you will become one of the skinny people others envy!
